How do I decide which cooling unit will work for me?

This is determined by your Btu/h requirements.   To find your approximate Btu/h requirements, you'll need to follow this two step process.

  1. Find the cubic capacity of the area to be cooled by multiplying its length, by its width,
    by its height.
  2. Take the cubic capacity found in step #1 and multiply it by 3 to find your approximate Btu/h requirements.

Example: If you're trying to cool an office that measures 20ft x 25ft x 9ft, your cubic feet would be 4,500.  Multiply that by 3 and your requirements are 13,500 Btu/h.   We would recommend any of our following portable cooling models:

        Water-cooled unit:    OceanAire PWC1811

Air-cooled units:        OceanAire PAC1011, OceanAire PAC1211, or for extra capacity
                                             the OceanAire PAC1811.

NOTE:   You will need to adjust your Btu/h requirements when heat generating conditions impact the area to be cooled (for example: computers, telecommunication equipment, servers, dense occupancy, windows, etc).

How is the unit vented?

This varies depending on whether you are using an air cooled or water cooled unit.  Some key points for venting are listed below.

    Air Cooled Units

bulletAn exhaust duct is required for air cooled units.  Most units require a 12" duct.  5-ton units require a 16" duct.
bulletWhen venting through a drop ceiling, space above the drop ceilings must be ventilated.
bulletAvoid kinks in the venting ducts.
bulletOur self-contained units automatically shut off and notify you when the condensate water reservoir requires emptying.

    Water Cooled Units

bulletAvoid kinks in the water lines.
bulletAssure adequate water pressure and drain facilities are available.
bulletWhen a hose-bib type connection is not available, units can be connected to a standard sink faucet using a faucet adapter which can be purchased at local hardware stores.

NOTE:   Temporary HVAC Cooling Systems are custom designed in the field.  Please contact us for specific information.

What temperature will the unit cool to?

The operating temperature for each of the cooling units varies depending on the unit.  Review details of the cooling capacity for each of our portable cooling units on the appropriate Products page.

A fan is built into each cooling unit to adjust the airflow.  Once the desired temperature and fan speed have been set, the unit will operate automatically to meet your cooling needs.

In order to maximize performance, we recommend that doors and windows in the cooling area stay closed.
